Let’s face it: there’s not always a whole lot to observe in the natural world during the winter season. But the birds – specifically those small and hardy ones that manage to make it through months of bitterly cold, snowy outdoor-living – they don’t disappoint! I’ve always loved watching the cardinals in winter, and wanted to draw the female Northern Cardinal for this month’s installment of my”Nature’s Design” series.
The drawing is done in colored pencil, and then overlaid with a graphic typographical quote I thought was fitting from the late, great Maya Angelou.
