One of the things I most love about drawing is the chance to create a feeling or relationship between objects that to normal human perception doesn’t exist. Ordinary, everyday objects take on a new meaning or life that just wasn’t there before. I was digging through a sketchbook and found these two quick pear studies I did a few years back. The way I positioned the pears created in them distinct personalities (expressed in a word caption below the drawings.)
While we’re on the topic, another thing I love about drawing: It forces you to S L O W D O W N and live fully and completely in the moment you are putting pen to paper. Time literally does stand still for me during those moments. And it’s then that I remember how it feels to be fully alive. What happens on the paper is almost secondary to having the chance to experience that sensation in this too-busy, fast-paced, distractible season of life.
