My task for this book cover was to create an avatar of sorts who resembled and captured the spirit of the author, Annette Bridges. Her “chick-lit” book is a memoir detailing her experience as a newly empty-nested mom, with the tagline “How to reimagine your life, purpose & hair color!” I wanted to create in Annette’s avatar a hip, friendly and confident personality that would appeal to other women approaching this stage of life. For the background I incorporated a burlap texture with an overlay of bright “lipstick red” and kept most other color accents in white, black or gray. Using a casual, handwritten style for the book title and author’s name helped to foster the friendly, woman-to-woman feeling of the book. Annette was thrilled with the end result and felt it perfectly captured the essence of her book’s message.
