I created this illustration of the author’s mother, who is affectionately called “Mamma.” Using a photo supplied by the author, I simplified her character into a black and white drawing of Mamma in her favorite bathing suit near the sea, along with an old-fashioned phone complete with it’s long twisted cord. Tying into the book’s “gospel” theme, Mamma has a halo hovering above her head, hinting at the truth-giving advice she was known to dole out. This illustration became the frontispiece of the book, providing readers with a whimsical image of Mamma as they read along.
